China to Punish Google, Apple and Microsoft for Spying

China to Punish Google, Apple and Microsoft for SpyingWhether it’s a vow or a threat, China has it out for Google, Apple and Microsoft, among other companies, for their cooperation with the US government, allowing NSA to spy. China’s People’s Daily, a state-operated media outlet, promised new regulations and punishments.

As translated by Reuters, “To resist the naked Internet hegemony, we will draw up international regulations and strengthen technology safeguards, but we will also severely punish the pawns of the villain. The priority is strengthening penalties and punishments, and for anyone who steals our information, even though they are far away, we shall punish them!”

(Of course, this is assuming that “the villain” is the NSA and “the pawns” are the companies suspected to be involved.)

In a more subdued translation by the English-language China Daily, it was printed that “online services have become a major way for the US to steal information globally.”

All companies suspected to have been involved have denied cooperating with NSA unless under law to do so.
