Michael Dell Makes Multi-Million Dollar Investment in Cloud Surveillance Company Eagle Eye Networks

The IT world is beginning to take notice of cloud surveillance solutions. Case in point, industry newcomer Eagle Eye Networks announced today that Dell computer founder Michael Dell has made a multi-million dollar investment in the company.

"I was greatly impressed with Dean Drako's execution as founder and long-time CEO of Barracuda Networks" said Michael Dell. "Eagle Eye Networks will bring tremendous advances in video surveillance with a 100 percent cloud-managed system that meets rigorous security requirements. Cloud technology is transforming the video surveillance industry, with broad applications spanning both security and business operations."

While Drako, a serial entrepreneur, founded Eagle Eye Networks back in 2012, it officially launched in January. It is headquartered in Austin, Texas with an office in Los Altos, Calif.

After launching Barracuda Networks, which created the first spam filter appliance, Drako turned his attention to the video surveillance industry.

"I wanted to create a new company that could do video surveillance in a new way," he said.

The Eagle Eye solution is definitely unique. Along with being totally managed in the cloud, both analog and IP cameras from a number of manufacturers can be used.

And with the company's Cloud-Premise Flex Storage technology, customers can flexibly adjust which video is stored on the cloud and which information is kept on-site.

When video is moved to the cloud, it is encrypted before it leaves the premises, during transmission, and at the Eagle Eye data center. Eagle Eye uses 256-bit AES encryption protocols to encrypt both the video and event data.

The on-demand Eagle Eye video API is also designed to make it easier for internal security, IT groups, resellers, and developers to meet objectives faster and use fewer resources.

More information about the company can be found on its website. Eagle Eye also recently released an interesting cloud video surveillance survey report that is definitely worth a read.
