A little-known data collecting process by Google can be switched off

Google Maps Tracks Your Every Step – But You Can Stop ItDo you carry your phone with you everywhere you go? Do you have a smart phone, such as an iPhone or Android Device? If so, there is a good chance that Google knows where you are at all times. The maps feature is nice, allowing you get directions and guidance anywhere for free, but that freedom comes at a different price.

 Maps.google.com/locationhistory/

This address allows you to log in and see exactly where you have been. Naturally it is only mentioned by Google in fine print, but if put in the wrong hands this data could be very harmful and dangerous. Google uses it primarily to tailor its services to each individual user, and build a better advertising profile of each user. Luckily, you can opt out of this feature by doing the following:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Select “Location History,” then “Location History” again.
  3. Check the box next to “Do not store,” then tap the back arrow.
  4. Tap “Location Reporting.”
  5. Check the box next to “Do not report.”
