Security at NFL Stadiums a Top Priority

Security at NFL Stadiums a Top PriorityAs the NFL season kicks off, stadiums around the country are taking new security measures to ensure that fans are safe and secure during the games. For the opening regular season matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle Police Department added extra officers that were positioned through the stadium and surrounding complex.

Interestingly, some of these officers were not wearing uniforms. Instead, they were dressed in Green Bay Packers clothing in order to test some of the rowdy fans and see if they might cause any trouble. Alcohol consumption can be high in some instances at NFL games, and the officers want to ensure that those who imbibe do so responsibly.

“Don’t get so loaded that you’re going to make bad decisions and pick on the Green Bay Packers fan that’s not a Packers fan and get tossed out of the game,” said Det. Patrick Michaud, Seattle Police Department, in a story.

NFL makes a point of banning fans from future games if they get kicked out. Many of those fans are required to take anger management courses before they can return.

The NFL is also stressing their relatively new bag policy, which debuted last year. Backpacks will not be allowed past the front gates. Instead, fans must bring clear bags that allow guards to see inside. Small purses and bags holding medical equipment have been deemed ok.
