School Break-in Averted with Measures Provided through Stanley Security Grant Program

Less than four months after the installation of a new security system, the Montessori School of Dayton in Kettering, OH credits the products and services provided by STANLEY Security with preventing a break-in attempt at the school during the winter break. The Montessori School of Dayton was a grant winner in the inaugural STANLEY Security TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS Grant Program, and received extensive new security measures for their school, valued at the $100,000 grant amount.

On the evening of the break-in in late December, video surveillance from the Montessori School of Dayton showed four suspects approaching the building, with two males climbing onto the roof and attempting to gain entry by breaking through a skylight. This triggered an alarm, monitored by Sonitrol of SW Ohio, and police were immediately dispatched to the scene. The video surveillance system and verified audio alarm monitoring services were part of the suite of services implemented at the school by STANLEY Security in 2014, through the grant program.

In the planning and execution of the security installation completed for the Montessori School of Dayton, STANLEY Security concentrated on providing a comprehensive, total solution that would serve to bring modern security solutions to the decades-old building. As a runner-up in the grant program, STANLEY assumed the cost of $100,000 of the security enhancements, including a Sonitrol audio-impact intrusion alarm, a managed access control system, a comprehensive video surveillance and video management solution with updated cameras to provide interior and exterior coverage, an integrated intercom system, intruder function locksets for classrooms so teachers can lock classroom doors from the inside, and fire system monitoring.

“We could not be more grateful for the sense of protection and well-being that STANLEY Security’s installation of products and services has provided us,” said Tim Meixner, president of Montessori School of Dayton. “STANLEY has allowed our entire community to feel a strong peace-of-mind, and the installation has already shown immeasurable value in protecting our facility and students.”

“Maintaining the integrity and safety of educational facilities and students throughout the nation is a top priority for STANLEY,” said Paul Hevesy, vice president, sales for STANLEY Security. “We are incredibly proud of the comprehensive security solutions we were able to provide the Montessori School of Dayton through the TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS Grant Program.”

Established in 2013, STANLEY Security’s K-12 installment of its TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS Grant Program offered all K-12 institutions in the continental U.S. the opportunity to enhance their school’s security systems through a share of a $500,000 grant. Throughout the grant program, the Montessori School of Dayton engaged the resources of its alumni networks and worldwide connections offered through the Montessori educational community to secure $100,000 in STANLEY Security installed products and services, which were fully implemented in August 2014. This year, STANLEY Security focused it’s TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS Grant Program on colleges and universities, providing a share of $600,000 to six grant recipients to be announced during the month of March.
