The Security Features of the Apple Watch

Apple has revealed a few of the security measures of their new Apple Watch, and while we still don’t have a full rundown of how the watch will make sure a thief isn’t using it to access your data, here is what we know so far:

The Apple Watch comes with an opt-in PIN number, similar to the iPhone, for Apple Pay. If it is activated, users of the watch will have to enter the PIN every time they put the watch on. The watch knows when someone puts the watch on, and will activate this feature at that time.

If the user opts-in for Apple Pay, a passcode then becomes mandatory. If someone steals your watch, they won’t be able to use it for payment without knowing your passcode. Apple Pay accounts can then be remotely deactivated via iCloud.

Furthermore, the watch only holds a fraction of the information that the iPhone holds; they are intended to be companion pieces.

Finally, the watch will feature a “Find My Apple Watch” tool that acts the same way as the iPhone app.
