Quite a Show

I've known Steve Fisher, president and CEO of Open Options, for several years. He is a southern fella who says it like it is; and when he talks, you ought to listen. Steve knows access control.

Steve puts it like this. Access control has been in the networking business for quite a few years - years before IP cameras. He knows a thing or two about networking. I'm going to team up with Steve and have a networking story in the magazine shortly. Steve would be my go-to guy for knowledge about the subject.

Open Options is introducing its DNA Fusion v6.2.3. You can also get a complete talking point about its supporting applications that is built on an open architecture foundation. This is the latest in access control technology, and attendees can get the low down on biometrics and video integration.

Steve and his team will shoot you straight.

My good friend, Rob Hile with SureView Systems, took a few minutes first thing yesterday morning to bring me up to speed on protecting facilities. Now, Rob is like a brother to me, so what he tells me is the gospel.

In our July issue of Campus Security, we will have a story how the SureView Immix software came to the rescue of a university in Canada. The short story for today is that this software platform consolidates systems and eases the burden of command center operators. More to come in July.

3M jumps squarely into the security space, launching their CR5400 double-sided ID1 reader. A very intelligent young man gave me the tour of this simple product that will take, for instance, a driver license, and no matter which way you slide it into the device, it can read the information. This is an easy way to quickly and accurately collect information and determine if the ID is genuine. If not, you'll know right away.

You want to know who is at your front door at home, but don't want to look through the peep hole? Yale locks, an ASSA ABLOY company, has the very cool digital door viewer. It is so simple, I'm thinking even I could install the solution on my front door.

Get this - with every push of the doorbell, included as part of the solution, the digital door viewer automatically records an image. There's more to this product, and you can see it today at the tradeshow.

What a terrific event ISC West has been this year. For the most part, legions of educated security professionals seeking more knowledge and solution information. Enjoy the last day of the show, and we'll probably meet again later this year at ASIS.

GSX produced a wonderful tradeshow earlier this week. Monday was surprisingly strong in the morning, and the afternoon wasn’t bad at all. That’s Monday’s results and asking attendees to travel on Sunday. Just a quick hint, no one wants to give up their weekend to travel and set up an exhibit booth. I’m just saying. Read Now

  • Nothing Artificial About this Intelligence

I have been looking forward to this year’s GSX show in New Orleans, the Cresent City, or if you prefer The Big Easy. It seems like quite a while since we’ve been here. Twenty years ago, ASIS, as it was known then was literally washed out of the city by someone known as Katrina. It is a good thing to come back to NOLA. Read Now

  • From Monitors to Mission Control

Security Operations Centers (SOC) were once defined by rows of static monitors, each displaying a single feed with operators quietly watching for issues. That model has become obsolete. Incidents evolve too quickly, data comes from multiple locations, and decisions must be made in seconds—not minutes. Read Now
