Off to Sunny California

By now you are all ready for ASIS. I’m determined to make a difference this year in Anaheim. I’m going to carry around my little black book and make notes on the most exciting products that I see each day.

I get this question more than any other during any tradeshow.

I’m also going to try something new - at least for me - and that is to Tweet products that make a difference, and use my LinkedIn connection to talk about all things security related. All this will take a little help from my staff, all of whom are wirelessly connected to New Media. I think they like teaching an “old dog” new tricks.

With ASIS starting on Monday, I’m going to take advantage of an invite from SureView Systems to tour Paramount Pictures at the studios security operations center in Hollywood. Representative from Paramount and SureView will be on hand to answer questions about their project from design to production, including installation.

I’ve been on a tour at Paramount before but I don’t remember seeing the security operation center. I’m looking forward to this event.

There are a few products that have been sent my way already that I think are worthy of mentioning.

Vivotek is showcasing a total solution for day/night traffic monitoring, which delivers clear license plate images. This product provides different exposure levels to avoid overexposure in some lighting conditions, and can capture clear plate images from vehicle moving at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.

Hikvision will be showing a 3 megapixel network PTZ dome camera, which boasts 120 db true wide dynamic range, integrated smart IR at a distance of up to 200 meters. It also includes a 36x optical zoom. It will allow smart tracking to detect progressively moving objects and follow them within its area of coverage.

No tradeshow is complete without a little bit of fun. Monday night includes a baseball game with Altronix. The Angels and A’s square off in Anaheim. Both teams are pretty much out of contention for a title, but in baseball you just never know. As of this writing, the Texas Rangers lead the West in the American League. I’m going to have to cheer for the A’s just to keep those pesky Angels from taking the lead.

Tuesday evening includes a tour of the Axis Communications’ Experience Center in Irvine, and then back to the Samsung event. On Wednesday night, I’m expecting my boss to buy dinner, maybe to curry favor from the editorial side of the house. I want to keep all these freebies under wraps for now, for fear that some industry analysts might hear about my events and take exception.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Anaheim.
