Making Sense of a Monday Start

Kicking off a tradeshow on Monday seems a little bit strange to me, and apparently many others who were at the show. It certainly doesn't diminish the quality of product exhibits, though it seems that a lot of attendees might have used Monday as a travel day to California.

Aside from what seemed to be somewhat low attendance numbers, ASIS is providing a terrific show. The first question uttered by many people is, "how is the show going for you?" I've heard mixed reviews - some good, some bad.

For me, ASIS is a terrific conference. New products and updated technology provide the end user much of what they are hoping for, and for the integrator an opportunity to see things up close and personal.

Kevin Wine from Verint, explained to me how they are expanding on situational awareness software, and how the customer can download a mobile app to actively participate in verification of an engagement.

I've watched companies partner with each other over this year, and this practice is still in full swing. Samsung has partnered with SmartVue to offer cloud-based solutions. This offers the end user reliability, security and a cost savings.

Tom Cook, vice president of sales at Samsung, said that end users are increasingly demanding off-site storage for a variety of reasons, including cost-effectiveness and security. This partnership will deliver ultimate flexibility for customers to choose the features and services they need from their video storage solution.

"Samsung is bringing new imaging solutions to the industry, and we're continually expanding the breadth and scope of our video surveillance offering to incorporate advanced features such as cloud services with innovative partners like SmartVue," he said.

In today's world filled with a card for everything, Identisys makes card selection a whole lot easier. Having the proper card means securing your facilities and protecting people, property and assets. School administrators face the same situation but must work within a budget, so working with the proper identification team makes all the difference in the world.

One of my goals in attending any tradeshow is to recruit industry experts to author stories that will be of interest to our readers. Part of our lineup early in 2016 will include Jeremy Morton, vice president and general manager, Stanley Security, and Kyle Gordon, director of higher education. Morton will contribute to the January 2016 issue of Dealer Strategies and will focus on Sonitrol. Gordon will be tackling a thought leadership piece in our Campus Security and Life Safety.

Not to get ahead of myself, but other contributors in early 2016 will be staff from Axis Communications, Avigilon, Quantum Secure and Allegian. I look for many good things to bring to our readership next year.

Traffic at ASIS will be much stronger on Tuesday, it always is busier on the second day. I've got a lot of terrific booth appointments set up already, and anxious to see what is happening.

Snap One has announced its popular Luma x20 family of surveillance products now offers even greater security and privacy for home and business owners across the globe by giving them full control over integrators’ system access to view live and recorded video. According to Snap One Product Manager Derek Webb, the new “customer handoff” feature provides enhanced user control after initial installation, allowing the owners to have total privacy while also making it easy to reinstate integrator access when maintenance or assistance is required. This new feature is now available to all Luma x20 users globally. “The Luma x20 family of surveillance solutions provides excellent image and audio capture, and with the new customer handoff feature, it now offers absolute privacy for camera feeds and recordings,” Webb said. “With notifications and integrator access controlled through the powerful OvrC remote system management platform, it’s easy for integrators to give their clients full control of their footage and then to get temporary access from the client for any troubleshooting needs.” 3
