Cisco Joins with Lancope to Gain Greater Network Security

Cisco announced its plans to buy security company Lancope for $452.5 million, on the company’s blog. The networking giant plans to integrate Lancope’s StealthWatch suite with its current security portfolio to give organizations better viability in what is happening in their network.

Lancope’s capabilities will provide organizations with more information about what is happening on the network as well as big data analytics to understand each piece of information and to identify threats. Cisco gains contextualized threat intelligence from Lancope’s analytics platform, which would expedite both detection and response time.

Cisco and Lancope know each other well as they have partnered together before, lending Cisco their specialized services in security intelligence, threat visibility and network behavior analytics. Under the terms of the deal, Cisco will pay millions of dollars, as well as “retention-based-incentives” for an Lancope employees who join Cisco. The new security team members will be working under David Goeckeler, senior vice president of Cisco’s Security Business Group.

“Lancope has been part of Cisco’s security solution for many years through a successful commercial relationship, and now we are coming together as one team,” Robert Salvagno, head of Corporate Development and Cisco Investments, said in the blog post. "Together, Cisco and Lancope will advance Cisco’s Security Everywhere strategy of providing advanced threat protection across the full attack continuum—before, during and after an attack."
