Surveillance Footage Helps Make Sense of Shooting near Subway Entrance

One man was killed and two others are critically wounded during a rush-hour shooting near Penn Station in mid-town Manhattan, the Associated Press reported. The gunfire erupted at 6:14 a.m., just outside the turnstiles of the northeast entrance of the station at 35th Street and Eighth Avenue.

Moments before the shooting, all three victims were inside a McDonald’s on Eighth when they were approached by a heavyset man in a black hooded sweatshirt, police said after reviewing surveillance footage from the restaurant.

The man then followed the trio into the subway station, where he shot them, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

The shooter, who fired four 9mm rounds, has not been captured, but was been seen fleeing north on Eighth with two accomplices in surveillance videos. They drove off in a silver vehicle, law enforcement said.

The man killed has been identified as 43-year-old Angel Quinones. The other two critically wounded men were taken to Bellevue Hospital Center.

At least two of the three victims were patients at a nearby methadone clinic, law enforcement said.

"This kind of thing doesn't happen over here," said Michael Gessow, 39, of the Bronx, who said he has been coming to the clinic for 10 years. "There's a group of us here that don't let things like this go down here. They were real nice guys, straight guys. I can't believe it.

Police closed off the block while detectives interview people at the McDonald’s and near the subway entrance at the time of the shooting. Investigators are also interviewing officials and patients at the methadone clinic a half-block west of where the shooting occurred.
