San Bernardino Steps Up Security

San Bernardino Steps Up Security

Employees of county facilities in San Bernardino, California started their week off with a little bit of normalcy. After the shooting in early December that killed 14 and wounded 21 others, county employees are back at work and with an added layer of security.

The county is now at a level three security level, which includes having armed security around and near county facilities, and more sheriffs’ deputies have been added on as security. The preexisting security at the buildings will now be armed.

Additional security measures are implemented across all county facilities and some will be permanent and others temporary. While it will take time to see a lot of the permanent changes, given the number of county facilities spread across one area.

A counseling hotline has been established for county employees, and all managers have been asked to look for signs of distress among their employees to make sure everyone receives the help they need.

“We can’t be afraid of our lives, of our community, or our neighbors, of our coworkers,” County Supervisor Janice Rutherford said. “We have to have the strength to continue.”
