Google Seeks to Make Two-Step Authentication Effortless

For a while now, Google has given Google App users the ability to give their accounts an extra layer of security through 2-step Verification. The system connected with the user’s mobile device to send a 6-digit pin number after the user typed in their login credentials. You would have to type in the 6-digit code into the space provided to access your account.

For most, this method was easily used on an everyday basis, but now Google wants to make it even easier to create that extra layer of security around your Gmail and Google Docs.

Starting this week, users can chose a new way to complete the 2-step authentication of their accounts. The new method recognizes when a user is signing into their account and instantly sends a prompt to the user’s phone. This prompt will include your name, profile image and the specific city and device you’re trying to log in from. There will be two buttons: “No, deny sign in,” or “Yes, allow sign in.”

Users can chose this option by going to Sign-In & Security under their account settings. From there, chose Signing in to Google and then 2-Step Verification. This screen will ask the user to confirm the mobile device that will be used for the verification.
