Original story below:

Joint Base Andrews in Maryland has been placed on lockdown following a report of an active shooter. The base was placed on lockdown just after 9 a.m. Thursday, June 30, officials told reporters.

The base is responding to the reports of an emergency situation by placing all personnel on lockdown, asking them to shelter in place.

Joint Base Andrews confirmed that it had planned an active shooter exercise for 9 a.m. this morning. However, at the same time of the scheduled exercise, first responders received reports of an active shooter at Malcolm Grow Medical Facility. The base is investigating the incident as an ongoing active shooter situation.

There have been no reports of gunfire or injuries at this time.

Fort Belvoir in Virginia says it is increasing its “security posture” in response to the incident at Joint Base Andrews. It has advised its personnel to stay clear of Joint Base Andrews.

The incident comes just one month after Joint Base Andrews was placed on lockdown after a woman walked onto the base and claimed she had a bomb.
