Reacting With Reason

EVERY MONTH, ALMOST EVERY DAY, I HOPE THAT THERE
HAS NOT BEEN ANOTHER SCHOOL SHOOTING WHERE
YOUNGSTERS ARE HURT, OR KILLED, ON AN EDUCATIONAL
CAMPUS. TOO OFTEN THAT HOPE GOES UNFULFILLED.
With security being ramped up on campuses nationwide, one random
act really puts a dent in to someone’s day, or life.
Normally, I don’t write about specific shootings, but I do like to
examine what campuses are doing to strengthen their security plans.
In our cover story, by Monique Merhige, she tackles the security
enhancements at Adelphi University. Adelphi has long been committed
to maintaining a comprehensive safety and crime prevention program.
The goal is to protect all members of the Adelphi community.
Today, Adelphi is listed as one of the 50 safest colleges in the United
States. Their reputation is solid when it comes to safety practices. Campus
officials engage in a proactive philosophy of building the right
team of people, who are considered true experts in the security field.
Adelphi University reached out to Idesco, a security integrator in
New York City, who has a remarkable track record on the campus setting
for more than 70 years.
Mike Troiani, Idesco’s service manager, said that no matter what challenges
they faced during the installation of security products, his team
and the staff at Adelphi, collaborated to
make things right.
The truth is that unexpected situations
always arise, and those challenges might
require a variation from the initial plans.
What end users depend upon the most are
terrific customer service and the best security
products on the market.
Our cover story talks about all the
trials and triumphs and security
installation at this world-class
campus. It tells the story of a
concerned integrator and an
end user well versed in the
need to protect its clientele.
There are far too
many stories where a student
or students are hurt
or killed on campus. Here is
a story of success and a desire
to do the right thing.
