5 Injured in Mexican Private School Shooting

Gunfire erupted at a Mexican private school on Wednesday, January 18, seriously wounding a teacher, three students and the shooter, AP reported.

A 15-year-old student brought a gun into the school and open fired on a 24-year-old teacher, 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy shooting them in the head. The alleged gunman then shot a 15-year-old classmate in the arm before turning the gun on himself.

The Nuevo Leon state security spokesman, Aldo Fasci, told reporters that the boy had brought the gun from home but he was unsure how the .22 caliber pistol got into the school. The American School of the Northeast said it at one time used a program to the bags of students, staff and teachers before they entered the school but had discontinued the security measure.

“There was a reason why book bags were checked. I think we are going to have to start doing it again,” Fasci said.

All wounded were showing vital signs but are in critical condition.
