Mission500 Raises more than $125,000 for Children in Need at ISC West 2017

Mission500, a charitable organization that works closely with the security industry to serve children in need in the U.S., raised more than $125,000 at its eighth annual Security 5K/2K Run/Walk and related sponsorships at this year’s ISC West.

Proceeds from the event will benefit children in need in the U.S., with a portion donated to Rex Bell Elementary School, a Title One school in Las Vegas. In addition to the donation, the school received 9,000 meals assembled by ISC West attendees the day before the Security 5K/2K.

“Year after year, it is gratifying and humbling to see the security industry come together to give back to those in need, and this year’s event was one of the best yet,” said Jeff Eichenlaub, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Mission500. “It was especially satisfying to see the immediate impact the industry’s support had on a local school through the care pack we held during the show.”

Eleven members of the 500 Club, which recognizes volunteers who raise $500 or more for Mission500, raised a combined $17,200 and received branded Mission500 jackets.

The top fundraising team was MONI Smart Security, which raised a total of $7,030. Ronnie Pennington of Altronix was the top individual fundraiser, collecting $4,205, followed by Travis Miller with $3,160 and Mary Jensby with $2,550. Heather Miller of Anixter raised $1,900, which will be matched by her employer for a total of $3,800.

In addition to funds raised through the Security 5K/2K and other events, Fredrik Nilsson, Vice President, Americas at Axis Communications announced that he will be donating the royalties of his new book, “Intelligent Network Video: Understanding Modern Video Surveillance Systems, Second Edition,” to Mission500.

Mission500 acknowledged medal winners and sponsors at the Security 5K/2K awards ceremony, where the organization also honored Jay Gotra of Cranston, R.I.-based Alliance Security with its annual Humanitarian Award, which honors individuals in the security industry who make important contributions to those in need. NorthStar Alarm Services of Orem, Utah, received Mission500’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award.

The Mission500 Security 5K/2K event is a joint collaboration organized by United Publications, the publisher of Security Systems News, ISC Events and Mission500. Charter sponsors are Alarm.com, Altronix Corporation, Axis Communications, Bosch Security, CMAC, Compass Integrated Communications, COPS Monitoring, DMP, Freeman, FST Biometrics, Galaxy Control Systems, Honeywell Security, I-View Security, LRG Marketing Communications, MONI Smart Security, Napco Starlink, Pelco by Schneider Electric, Robotic Assistance Devices, Safety Technology International, Inc. and ScanScource.

This year’s fastest female was Karen Salerno of ISC Events with a time of 20:25. The fastest male and overall winner was Johann Linortner of Commend Inc., who completed the 5K course in 19:08. Complete race times can be found at http://elementalracetiming.com/security-5k-2017-results.
