Views from ASIS Show Floor

The Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center was filled to the brim with security experts, integrators, end users and more on day one of ASIS 2017 creating an atmosphere of innovative collaboration right in the heart of downtown Dallas. It was quiet a sight to see!

In case you might have missed it, we’ve wrangled up (A cowboy pun is a must - you’re in Dallas for goodness sake.) moments from day one that you might have missed. These moments were caught on our Live From page viewable at this link: https://securitytoday.com/pages/asis.aspx.

Costar Video Systems and Christie Brimberry of Gas Monkey Garage

On day one of the show, Costar Systems Video invited out Christie Brimberry, assistant to Richard Rawlings at Gas Monkey Garage, as seen on Fast N’ Loud, the Discovery Channel television program.

Costar has a wonderful working relationship with Rawlings, Brimberry and Gas Monkey Garage as they help him to secure his facility with their StarNET video management software. The powerful processing capabilities of StarNET allows it to manage multiple video streams from both analog, HD-TVI, and IP cameras. The StarNET platforms allows for a decentralized management structure, which does not require a central point of access.

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, Rawlings will be at Costar’s booth (2209) to sign autographs and take some selfies. While you’re there, ask for a demo of StarNET, the people at Costar are more than happy to help.

Tom Galvin Speaks on Hardening Surveillance Cameras Against Cyber Attacks

Tom Galvin, CEO of Razberi Technologies gave an insightful and educational talk on how to harden security cameras against cyber attacks, something that we, unfortunately, are having to deal with as an industry has hackers become more and more informed on the vulnerabilities of the hardware.

During Galvin’s session, he highlighted three important takeaways: expect cyber attacks against surveillance systems, identify and protect the attack surfaces and apply automation and tools to get consistent results. Fortunately, Razberi has just the product to help you thwart the cyber criminals.

CameraDefense automates and scales your efforts by hardening cameras automatically so they don’t become a liability. Next, it will use the unique capabilities of Razberi ServerSwitchIQ™ to isolate cameras in a distributed appliance architecture and set up a VLAN. After that, you can take advantage of ongoing health monitoring for proactive alerts to act before it is too late.

  • The Future is Happening Outside the Cloud

For years, the cloud has captivated the physical security industry. And for good reason. Remote access, elastic scalability and simplified maintenance reshaped how we think about deploying and managing systems. But as the number of cameras grows and resolutions push from HD to 4K and beyond, the cloud’s limits are becoming unavoidable. Bandwidth bottlenecks. Latency lags. Rising storage costs. These are not abstract concerns. Read Now

  • The Impact of Convergence Between IT and Physical Security

  • Unlocking Trustworthy AI: Building Transparency in Security Governance

In situations where AI supports important security tasks like leading investigations and detecting threats and anomalies, transparency is essential. When an incident occurs, investigators must trace the logic behind each automated response to confirm its validity or spot errors. Demanding interpretable AI turns opaque “black boxes” into accountable partners that enhance, rather than compromise, organizational defense. Read Now

  • Seeking Innovative Solutions

Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. You may recognize these terms as the “5 Phases” of a grieving process, but they could easily describe the phases one goes through before adopting any new or emerging innovation or technology, especially in a highly risk-averse industry like security. However, the desire for convenience in all aspects of modern life is finally beginning to turn the tide from old school hardware as the go-to towards more user-friendly, yet still secure, door solutions.
