Whole Foods Investigating Credit Card Security Breach

Whole Foods Investigating Credit Card Security Breach

The grocery chain has "recieved information reguarding unauthorized access of payment card information."

We might be looking at the next big security breach. Whole Foods announced Thursday that it "recently received information regarding unauthorized access of payment card information."

The grocery chain, which was recently acquired by Amazon, says those who just shop at the grocery store will not be affected; it seems the majority of unauthorized access to card happened to those who used their cards at the taprooms and table-service restaurants that are inside the store. Those use a different point-of-sales system.

"When Whole Foods Market learned of this, the company launched an investigation, obtained the help of a leading cybersecurity forensics firm, contacted law enforcement, and is taking appropriate measures to address the issue," Whole Foods said in a statement on Thursday.

Whole Foods encourages those who have shopped at their stores to closely monitor their bank accounts, even if they had not shopped at a taproom or restaurant to ensure that they quickly catch and report any discrepancies.

The chain also added that no Amazon.com purchases had been affected by the breach and that Amazon and Whole Foods are still separate in that respect.
