Majory Stoneman Douglas Continues to Increase Security Following Several Incidents

Highway Patrol troopers will join the security team at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Security at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. continues to be paramount over a month after an ex-student open fired and killed 17 people and injured 12 more at the school. On Tuesday, Superintendent Robert Runcie announced more security measures would be taken to secure the school following threats and trespassing incidents on campus.

Eight Florida Highway Patrol troopers will report for duty Thursday at the high school to secure entry points. The deployments of the troopers was deemed necessary by Gov. Rick Scott after two students were charged with bringing weapons to school and another was charged for making a threat on social media.

Earlier this week, the brother of the alleged school shooter was caught trespassing on the campus. He was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday for that offense.

The news also comes after Broward officials released information about a Broward County Sheriff's Office deputy who was accused of "appearing to sleep on duty" in his patrol car while he was parked outside the school this week.

Gov. Scott asked that the armed troopers guard every school entrance until a more permanent security plan is put in place for the school.
