Pittsburgh Adding Security Layers to PNC Field

Pittsburgh Adding Security Layers to PNC Field

Metal detectors are being added to entrances at PNC Field

Starting June 29th, fans heading to PNC Field will be met with staff with handheld metal detectors.

"It's just making the fans feel safe when they get here," RailRiders President and General Manager Josh Olerud said. "Kind of falling in line with what other arenas are doing."

RailRiders officials say the changes are happening at stadiums and areas all over the country and fans expect to see security as they enter sporting events these days.

The remainder of the season fans can expect to see the handheld metal detectors, but next season permanent ones that fans can walk through will be installed.

Inside the arena, police and sheriff's deputies are always on duty.

"The more protection, the better," one fan said to local news stations.
