Cybersecurity Preparations for 2020 Election Underway

The director of Homeland Security's cybersecurity agency said on Wednesday that election security officials should prepare for all possibilities.

The director of Homeland Security's cybersecurity agency says officials are working to secure the 2020 presidential election.

Christopher Krebs told the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday that he was attempting to focus the shift from what happened with the 2016 election (Russian interference) and focus on what could happen next. He is working to get election security officials to think ahead and prepare for all possibilities.

Krebs acknowledged that the threat of more interference could create chaos and says the government will be working to better inform Americans to skirt more discord.

Intelligence officials last week gave President Donald Trump a classified report on the 2018 midterm election that said no evidence was found that efforts by the Russians or other foreign groups affected the elections or campaign infrastructure. The details of the report, however, remain classified according to the Associated Press
