Nearly 15 Million 500px Users Made Vulnerable by Breach

The names, usernames, passwords and other sensitive information was leaked in July of 2018.

Popular photo-sharing website 500px wrote in a blog post that the personal information of 14.8 million of its users was impacted by a security breach that occurred in July 2018. The website said that it is in the process of notifying s and resetting the login credentials of all its users.

The notification outlines that the company's engineering team discovered a "potential security issue" on February 8, and when they dug deeper they found that someone had breached their systems around July 5, 2018.

That unknown party "acquired partial user data" that users entered into the platform, such as first and last names, user names, email address and a hashed version of their password as well as user's birthdate, gender and location.

The company also said that "there is no indication of unauthorized access" to its user accounts, adding that information like credit card numbers wasn't stored on company serves, and, as a result, was not accessed.

500px said that its since secured the vulnerability, and only members of the site before the breach in July are affected. The company noted that it has alerted the police and has retained a private security firm to investigate the issue.
