The Sherwood Forest subdivision in Baton Rouge, La., is increasing security following a murder in the area. Last month, a 57-year-old woman was shot and killed while dropping off a friend in the neighborhood and the killer is still at large, according to the police.

A Baton Rouge Police Department spokesperson told WAFB that the department is still investigating but are no closer to naming a motive or making an arrest in the case.

Gay Patureau, chairman of the Sherwood Forest Crime Prevention District, said the organization is working to increase security in the neighborhood.

“We are very eager to get it up and rolling,” Patureau said.

Patureau said that they plan to install cameras and license plate readers at each of the neighborhood’s 16 entrances within the next 60 days. The equipment will be similar to that in other BR communities, but Sherwood Forest’s will be directly accessible by the BRPD. When the Real Time Crime Center comes online, department officers will be able to monitor the cameras 24/7.

“It is going to bring a level of security really like no other subdivision has at this point,” Patureau said.

The cameras are part of a comprehensive security plan Patureau hopes will catch on in other areas and hopefully prevent more tragedies from occurring.

“We hope it’s a solid pilot program so that other neighborhoods can follow the formula as they go forward,” he added.

Residents of the Sherwood Forest community will pay about $75 annually for the program. Community leaders plan to begin work on the camera system sometime in March.
