Turning the Tide Back to Security

I’m not trying to minimize the worries of that pandemic thing, also known as COVID-19, but there are some interesting things happening the security world, including who is exploring use of new solutions, helping others in need and what’s happening to our trade shows. Here’s a look.

Thermal Cameras, LAX Airport

Are people actually getting on airplanes these days? Apparently there are enough fliers, and enough interest that thermal cameras at airports are getting more than a second look.

'There is something new at Los Angeles International Airport. Passengers may notice additional cameras — thermal cameras to ensure travelers don’t have a fever. The cameras are placed at the Tom Bradley International Terminal, searching passenger who might have above-average body temperatures.

'The decision to install the cameras was announced by LA mayor Eric Garrett and the Los Angeles Worth Airports. Officials are hoping the cameras will help fight coronavirus. The thermal scans are voluntary.

'LAX is expected to add signs, explaining to passengers where they would be scanned for thermal body temperatures. Anyone testing100.4 degrees or above will be given a second test.

Feeding Healthcare Heros

5,000 meals have been delivered to hospitals in Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Boston and Tampa.

ADT Commercial is donating meals to healthcare workers at five major hospitals across the United States to express gratitude for those caregivers who have been on the front lines in the nation’s fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic.

ADT Commercial’s donation follows ADT’s recent announcement to provide $1 million to support more than 120 non-profits hit hard by COVID-19 across America. To date, at least 90 organizations, ranging from food banks to first responder agencies, have been assisted.

The Year of No Tradeshows

I did miss the ISC West event. I did not miss Las Vegas. A virtual event is planned for Oct. 5-7. Show officials pushed the event back until it was time to call for the virtual event.

Industry and market circumstances have forced trade show organizers to rethink inperson events. ISC West is following suit to many other industry events, opting for a virtual even to continue serving the security and public safety community.
