Conference to Offer Education, Networking, and Solutions on Workplace Violence Management

The Security Executive Council, with Rice University and MD Anderson Cancer Center, will facilitate a day and a half of expert-led sessions on workplace violence risk management for corporate security practitioners, cross-functional partners, and police and emergency responders.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2020 there were more than 37,000 nonfatal workplace injuries inflicted intentionally by another person and nearly 400 workplace homicides. Healthcare workers are five times more likely to suffer workplace violence than workers in other industries. These numbers underline the criticality of strong cross-functional workplace violence prevention, preparedness, and response efforts in every organization.

The Workplace Violence Management State of the Industry conference will include seven seminar sessions, networking opportunities, and a keynote by Shibu Varghese, Senior Vice President of People, Culture & Infrastructure for MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Individual sessions will tackle a range of issues, including awareness, regulatory considerations, program strategy and planning, incident response, and proven practices. The event will take place at Rice University in Houston and will also be streamed in real time for offsite participants. Discounts are available for students and active law enforcement.

“In today's environment, workplace violence is an ever-present risk for every organization,” said Dean Correia, SEC Emeritus Faculty of Business Continuity. “Every function responsible for managing workplace violence will benefit from attending this event. The takeaways and industry connections will better enable leaders to proactively train their people and increase their confidence in current and future people and asset protection programs.”
