Vicon Industries Inc. recently announced the company completed installation of a network-based video surveillance and management system for Monterey Bay Aquarium in California.
Historically, there have been two types of access control systems: online and stand-alone. Online systems perform access-granted and access-denied functions with almost instantaneous ability through physical hard-wired connectivity. Stand-alone systems perform many of the same functions as an online system, but do not have the instantaneous audit trail capability.

And a major international retailer will spend $15 million for its two-year asset protection and safety program contract extension. There are many reasons why retailers employ video surveillance. Theft is, of course, a prime motivation. American retailers lose billions of dollars per year due to theft from shoppers and employees.

After being established in 1869, the Seattle First Presbyterian Church has seen the city grow up around it. Security has been an ongoing issue, especially because the church proper encompasses one city block -- with 17 doors.
Today, most organization officials understand they can use their IP network to connect physical security devices together. In some cases, the capital and operational cost savings from using a single communications infrastructure is enough to motivate them. But for others, further justification and additional benefits may be needed to drive convergence between the physical and the cyber worlds.

With more than 53 million students going back to school, a national survey released recently shows that more than one out of 10 teachers believe their school is unprepared to protect kids. The results are part of the second annual ADT Back-to-School Survey conducted by Zogby International.

The King Fahd Industrial Port at Yanbu on the Red Sea coast is the Saudi sea gateway for Europe and the fastest developing industrial area in Saudi Arabia. Its CCTV monitoring system, which has to provide high security for valuable cargos and infrastructure, has recently been upgraded with Geutebruck servers, management system, video analysis and GUI to replace a previous IP solution whose performance had proved disappointing.
Universal Safety Response (USR), a Smith and Wesson Company, and a provider of perimeter security systems, recently that it has commenced Phase II security upgrades for the Florida State Capitol Complex in Tallahassee. USR provided original Phase I upgrades to the facility in late 2007.
