As new technologies and a struggling economy continue to fuel increased crime rates, a new relationship with San Francisco-based 3VR Security Inc. will provide customers of Diebold with expanded solutions for deterring crime.

EVT, a developer of networked video management and recording software, recently announced that ElbitSec, a subsidiary of Elbit group, has deployed the Vertex Video management and NVR software suite for its border protection project around the city of Jerusalem. The installation marks the first defense deployment of EVT’s software.
All in all, GovSec 2009 was a smashing success. Tradeshow organizers from the 1105 Government Information Group put together an incredible show for both GovSec and FOSE. Security Products magazine was equally successful in planning and coordinating our first ever IP Summit. We look forward to hosting another event in 2010.

ShotSpotter Inc. recently announced that acoustic and geolocation evidence gathered from the ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System (GLS) was used by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. This evidence assisted in the successful first-degree murder conviction of two known gang members.
Spread throughout the United States are 325 ports of entry that require surveillance and protection. Every year, Customs and Border Protection processes nearly a half billion people, along with 130 million vehicles and another 20 million cargo containers. Based on a five-year plan developed by CBP, the organization is working with federal, state, local, tribal and other entities to secure borders.

Traditionally, aviation security checkpoints have focused on searching for metallic items and explosives using walk-through metal detectors and X-ray technology. However, as terrorists become more sophisticated, the need for better explosive-detection technologies that can detect an increasing variety of threats, including improvised explosives materials such as triacetonetriperoxide, is emerging.

The Department of Defense is rolling out more than 350 of Sony’s latest-generation 1.3 megapixel high-resolution network security cameras to its facilities worldwide. According to Strategic Solutions Unlimited (SSU), a security systems integrator based in Fayetteville, N.C., the Department of Defense is in the second phase of its camera deployment, adding 300 units to the 50 cameras initially installed in 2008.
