Avigilon today announced that the company has joined the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF) enabling the integration of ONVIF standards-compliant IP cameras with Avigilon’s Control Center High Definition surveillance software.

Technology in the Bergen County Jail in New Jersey is state-of-the-art, featuring computer control of all inmate housing areas, an integrated perimeter security system, a site-wide duress/panic alarm system and a computerized control center. However, the Bergen County courthouse and jail had some particular challenges that the coaxial (analog) cameras simply could not meet.

Axis Communications recently announced that Tampa Bay Downs Inc. has installed its video encoders, enabling the track to exceed new state regulations for recording surveillance video at gaming facilities in a cost effective manner.
President Obama has proposed sweeping reform of the nation's healthcare system and said he believes all medical records should be computerized and standardized within five years. The President hopes this will result in increased quality of care, decreased costs, and creation of thousands of new jobs. Todd Feinman, a published security expert and CEO of Identity Finder , cautions, however, that electronic medical records add higher risk of identity theft unless they are carefully protected.
In 2007, the entire nation was reeling from the devastation of the Virginia Tech University shootings. As a result, Northern Illinois University decided to apply lessons learned from Virginia Tech and re-examine and fine-tune its own emergency plan. Officials hoped to be prepared but never to have to execute the plan for a similar event. Unfortunately, NIU's emergency plan was put to the test on Feb. 14, 2008, as the result of a campus shooting.
