Sheriff’s deputies at Century Station, part of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, are now using “digital eyes” to protect citizens on the streets of Lynwood, Calif. and the surrounding unincorporated areas.
In a recent report from IMS Research, the U.S. market for network cameras, video servers and NVRs is estimated to have increased by a massive 45 percent in 2007. However, the market has got off to a slower start in 2008 and it seems unlikely that the market will grow as fast this year as it did last year.

An integrated IP video solution has been used to upgrade two Greek casinos to fully-digital CCTV surveillance, in full compliance with the demanding Greek gaming laws. The Casino Rio, located north of the Western port city of Patras and Casino Xanthi, which is situated in the Northeast city of the same name, are now both benefiting from vastly improved CCTV systems.
A new study forecasts a nearly fourfold increase in revenue from video surveillance software between now and the end of 2013, rising from about $245 million to more than $900 million.
To assist in protecting crowds during the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at the Phoenix International Raceway, the Glendale Police Department reached once again for a high-tech wireless video surveillance system from AgileMesh, a provider of rapidly deployable video surveillance, and Firetide, a developer of wireless mesh and access networks.
With a population of more than 35,000, the Belgium city of Geel is using IP network video surveillance from Milestone Systems and Axis Communications to protect numerous facilities in the town.

Genetec announced recently that the City of Manchester, United Kingdom, selected Omnicast 4.1 for a major system upgrade project. With approximately 700 analog cameras spread throughout the city, the City of Manchester is gradually migrating to IP, and all cameras will eventually be managed by the IP platform.
In the summer of 2006, Phoenix was in the grip of two serial killing sprees. In both cases, victims were being targeted in outdoor areas. The first case, the Baseline Killer, involved eight rapes and murders near a stretch of Baseline Road at the southern edge of the city. The second case, known as the Serial Shooter, involved 36 random shootings -- six of which were fatal -- of pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the metropolitan area.
