Credit Union Implements Biometric Access Control System

GEICO Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Chevy Chase, Md., recently purchased and implemented US Biometrics’ AccessQ system for controlling physical access to various entrances with fingerprint biometrics.

US Biometrics worked with GEICO to specify and implement the hardware and software system so as to biometrically control strategic entrances within their facility.

“We needed to make our entrances more convenient for our employees but also more secure,” states Karen Taney, AVP of Information Technology at GEICO. “We have accomplished not only that goal but additional benefits that allow me to give my CEO reports for employee management. Our strategic plan will make use of the CentralQ foundation so that we can add the other components from US Biometrics’ suite of products to help us comply with NCUA security recommendations for desktops and applications.”

Some of the products included in the installation are:

AccessQ biometric devices are a secure, convenient alternative to badges or swipe cards. The devices offer levels of authorization for an individual wanting access through an entranceway and connect to the existing local area network which reduces installation costs.

CentralQ software stores credentials including fingerprint profiles and employee information. It provides a mechanism for scheduling access based on authorization levels and the time of day.

CentralQ Reporting allows administrators to view who accessed which devices at what time and provides some basic statistics about the system’s usage.

“We are excited to have GEICO Federal Credit Union as a customer,” said David Delgrosso, president of US Biometrics. “Using biometrics for access control will have a quick return on investment for GEICO. Their decision to use CentralQ will give them the flexibility to add logical control for their computer and software security in the future.”

Hexagon’s Geosystems presents a portable version of its Accur8vision detection system. A rugged all-in-one solution, the A8V MIND (Mobile Intrusion Detection) is designed to provide flexible protection of critical outdoor infrastructure and objects. Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
