Datacard Group Announces Launch Of Retransfer Card Printers

Datacard Group recently announced the launch of the Datacard SR200 and SR300 retransfer card printers at ISC West. Designed for full-color, over-the-edge printing in single- or dual-sided applications, these affordable printers can also be configured with an optional laminator.

“These new printers enable brand conscious issuers to maximize image quality and protect their budget,” said Connell Smith, vice president of hardware marketing for Datacard Group. “Retransfer printing ensures superior card results, while the printers’ simple, compact design makes this technology affordable for a wide range of applications.”

Both printers process cards in landscape orientation to minimize unwanted dye transfer. They also reproduce a wider color gamut than competitive offerings, which improves image gradation, tonal reproduction and image contrast.

The SR200 printer is ideal for single-sided applications. The SR300 printer offers dual-sided printing and also encodes smart card chips and magnetic stripes. The optional laminator can apply Datacard topcoats or Datacard DuraGard laminates to help extend card life and strengthen card security. Both printers protect cards and ribbons with electronic locks, and a security erase feature blocks out black text on used ribbons to obscure cardholder data.

Because they print on retransfer material before applying images to cards, the SR200 and SR300 printers print on a wider variety of card materials, including PVC, ABS, PET, PET-G and polycarbonate.

It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
