SAIC Announces Opening of Cyber Innovation Center in Maryland

Science Applications International Corp. announced the grand opening of its Cyber Innovation Center in Columbia, Md. Local government officials including Senator Barbara Mikulski and Governor Martin O'Malley helped kick off the opening, alongside SAIC CEO Walt Havenstein and Senior Vice President Larry Cox.

SAIC is an industry leader in helping government and commercial enterprises prepare for, protect against and respond to a wide array of cybersecurity threats. These services and solutions include designing comprehensive cyber-risk management programs to identify and neutralize cyber attacks, integrating and managing information security services to protect mission-critical data, and performing certification and accreditation testing of information technology systems. The CIC helps enable the delivery of these solutions by providing a collaboration space dedicated to fusing the ideas, services and technologies required to address the nation's toughest cybersecurity challenges.

"The new CIC at SAIC is a true investment in the future of our workforce," said Governor O'Malley. "Cybersecurity, computer systems design, and all the high tech, high potential sectors of our economy are all connected to our goals for creating, saving, and placing Marylanders in quality jobs. The innovation and exchange of ideas that happen here will help us identify threats such as identity theft, network viruses, loss of sensitive information and other malicious activity that are part of the ever-evolving world of cyber information and communications."

"The CIC offers an environment where the comprehensive knowledge of SAIC's workforce is brought to bear upon the challenge at hand," said Larry Cox, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager. "We look forward to leveraging this valuable new resource as we continue to grow our presence in Maryland."

The CIC includes a technical solutions lab and secured infrastructure intended to help SAIC develop and deliver innovative cybersecurity solutions to customers. Other features of the center include a research and development, and training and conference spaces, as well as demonstration, prototyping and proposal solution support areas.

"The opening of the Cyber Innovation Center is good news for three reasons: jobs, jobs and more jobs for Maryland, jobs that keep the country safe and keep the economy strong," said Senator Mikulski. "To keep our state competitive in the global economy, we have to create and support Maryland's jobs of the future, like the innovative cybersecurity jobs at SAIC. Maryland's unique federal facilities make it the epicenter of cyber security innovation, and I'm so proud that Columbia was chosen to house this important new cyber technology incubator and educational center."
