L-3 Awarded TSA Contract For Technology To Screen Passenger Carry-On Items At Checkpoints

L-3 Security & Detection Systems announced recently that it was awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract with a ceiling of $325 million by the Transportation Security Administration to supply next-generation Advanced Technology (AT) X-ray systems to screen carry-on baggage at security checkpoints.

This contract follows the recent addition of the multi-view ACX 6.4-MV to TSA’s Qualified Technologies List for checkpoint security screening of passenger carry-on items.

“With advanced detection technology derived from L-3’s proven hold baggage systems, the ACX 6.4-MV platform offers our security customers a robust checkpoint solution that delivers effective explosives detection in a high-throughput, compact design that is flexible and upgradeable,” said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems. “L-3 is able to provide a comprehensive checkpoint solution for both people and carry-on items with the powerful combination of the TSA-approved ProVision Advanced Imaging Technology and the recently approved ACX 6.4-MV checkpoint system.”

The ACX 6.4-MV features a small multi-view footprint, which conserves space, and employs sophisticated patented algorithms to detect explosives. L-3’s Transparent Color advanced imaging features provide operators with two simultaneous views of carry-on contents. The system also offers investment protection through its modular design, which includes upgradeable software and the ability to easily expand the number of views in the field from one or two views up to a three-view configuration to address new requirements.
