LENSEC Named Axis Communications' Education Partner of the Year

Axis Communications has named LENSEC, a provider of IP-based video surveillance solutions, as its 2010 Education Partner of the Year. Axis Communications, a global leader in network video, recognized LENSEC for its commitment to providing integrated, adaptable security solutions for K-12 and higher education.

LENSEC received the award at the annual Axis Channel Convergence Conference, which was held in Las Vegas, Nev., from Nov. 15-17.

"LENSEC is privileged to partner with Axis, which is the recognized leader in network video surveillance camera technology," said David Crawford, LENSEC CEO. "We appreciate the recognition of our team's commitment to providing our education partners with excellent technical solutions, ease-of-use and quality support."

LENSEC is a Gold Partner in Axis' Channel Partner Program, which provides access to its network video products, lead-sharing and specialized training programs, and also is a member of the company's Application Development Partner program. As a channel-oriented company, Axis views partners as an extension of its team, playing a key role in the overall success of their company.

"Educational institutions ─ from K through 12 schools to colleges and universities ─ continue to be strong proponents of network video technology, and LENSEC has enhanced the quality of educational security solutions across the country," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications Inc. "Because of their ability to deliver customized IP video solutions for school districts and college campuses, we're pleased to present LENSEC with this vertical market award."

In early 2011, LENSEC will begin offering its new Perspective Video Management System, which is built on Microsoft's Silverlight platform. Perspective offers an Internet application with a completely web-enabled interface.

"Perspective offers real-time notification, documentation and collaboration," said Crawford. "School administrators and safety officers can keep a sharp eye on school grounds and surrounding areas using integrated audio, video, motion analytics and security sensors."

Founded in 1998, Houston-based LENSEC provides IP-based video surveillance solutions to local governments and schools, ports and transportation authorities, as well as industrial and retail complexes.

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. The first network camera, launched in 1996, delivered one frame every 17 seconds—not impressive by today’s standards, but groundbreaking at the time. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
