FLIR Systems Wins Multi-Million Dollar Coastal Infrastructure Security Contract

FLIR Systems Inc. has teamed with Sonardyne International Ltd. on a multi-million dollar project in the United Arab Emirates. The companies, with FLIR as the project leader, will provide a commercial, off-the shelf, integrated perimeter and coastal protection solution for a key coastal facility. The installed CommandSpace solution will provide multi-dimensional, wide-area surveillance above and below the water line for comprehensive perimeter security.

Under the contract, FLIR will provide ground surveillance radars as well as thermal and CCD imagers. Sonardyne will provide Sentinel IDS intruder detection sonar. As with all FLIR CommandSpace solutions, the entire system will be seamlessly integrated via the FLIR command and control software platform to display radar, sonar and optical data onto a single common operating picture.

“The FLIR team has been pioneering this concept of wide area surveillance for over a decade, and has seen increasing acceptance of the CommandSpace model,” said Bill Sundermeier, president of FLIR government systems division. “By utilizing Sonardyne technologies, the installed solution will provide comprehensive sub-sea security as well.”
John Ramsden, of Sonardyne International, said, “This contract demonstrates that cost-effective, integrated security solutions are now available for the protection of strategic waterside infrastructure.”
