L-3 Security and Detection Systems Supplies Systems to Latin American Airports

Six airports located throughout Mexico, Colombia and Costa Rica have selected L-3 to address their passenger, hand-carried and checked baggage screening requirements. L-3 SDS will deploy systems at Monterrey International Airport and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport in Mexico, as well as at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport of Liberia in Costa Rica. In Colombia, ARINC chose L-3 on behalf of the following airports: Los Garzones Airport, José María Córdova Airport and Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport.

“We are pleased that airports in Latin America are choosing L-3 to secure their checkpoints and checked baggage facilities,” said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 SDS. “Over the past few years, we have made significant advances in the Latin American market, and we look forward to further expansion in this important and growing region.”

Specific systems that were selected include the ProVision people-screening system, the OptEX explosives trace detection system, as well as the certified eXaminer 3DX and eXaminer SX and EU-approved VIS-HR checked-baggage screening systems.

L-3’s regulator-approved ProVision was selected to screen subjects quickly using millimeter wave technology that detects concealed objects made of any type of material – both metallic and non-metallic. ProVision offers multiple levels of privacy protection that can be customized to support customer-specific operational procedures.

L-3’s checked baggage solutions leverage both explosives detection and trace detection technologies. Certified explosives detection systems include the proven and widely deployed eXaminer 3DX and the compact eXaminer SX, both with continuous flow CT technology that maximizes throughput. The low-cost VIS-HR automated EDS system was selected for its small footprint and exceptionally high throughput at level 1 screening. For trace alarm resolution, customers will benefit from the fast analysis and low operational cost of the OptEX explosives trace detection system.
