Optellios FiberPatrol X Intrusion Detection System Tested At Large U.S. Airport

Optellios Inc., a developer and manufacturer of fiber-optic sensing and security systems, announced recently that its FiberPatrol X, is the first and only self-healing fiber optic intrusion detection system to be independently evaluated by The National Safe Skies Alliance and the Transportation Security Administration.

Over a period of nine months, the National Safe Skies Alliance conducted thousands of intrusion and tampering tests on the FiberPatrol X system that is installed at a large U.S. airport. The FiberPatrol X technology maintained continuous intrusion detection and identification capability, in spite of multiple and simultaneous tampering events, including attempts to cut, climb or crawl under the fence fabric.

A FiberPatrol, FP1100-X system will be fully operational and ready for demonstration in Booth 3135 during ISC West. With its patented and patent-pending technology, the system is capable of detecting and pinpointing intrusion attempts within a few feet over miles of sensor cable. A vital requirement for protecting critical infrastructure, FiberPatrol X is currently protecting installations, including military bases, airports, power plants, water treatment facilities, pipelines, secure data networks, and other critical infrastructure and high-value assets.

"Unlike standard fiber-optic perimeter intrusion systems, FiberPatrol X supports cut immunity. When the sensor cable is cut, either by accident or from a deliberate intrusion attempt, the system maintains the ability to detect and pinpoint the intrusion. The self-healing sensor ring operates in a closed-loop configuration, allowing the system to maintain full situation awareness, a truly unique innovation for a fiber-optic intrusion detection system," said David Smith, Optellios president and CEO.
