3i-MIND Appoints Geoffrey Baird as Chief Executive Officer

3i-MIND, a threat management technology provider, announced the appointment of Geoffrey Baird as chief executive officer. Baird succeeds Yali Harari who has stepped down as CEO and will depart the company.

Baird comes to 3i-MIND with extensive experience in the high-tech sector, having most recently served as general manager at Avaya. During his time at Avaya, Baird managed a $1 billion business unit with 500 employees based in six countries. Prior to his work at Avaya, Baird was CEO of two software start-ups in the mobile space that provided applications and host services to enterprises.

Baird graduated from the University of Reading (England) with a degree in cybernetics and control engineering with mathematics and subsequently received his MBA from London Business School.

“I want to thank Yali Harari for her service, and the level of dedication and commitment she brought to 3i-MIND over the last two years; I wish her much success in her future pursuits,” said Mati Kochavi, chairman of 3i-MIND.

In May 2011, 3i-MIND acquired iJET, a provider of global intelligence and business resiliency services. Together, the two companies’ global intelligence, innovative technology and robust response capabilities will enable clients to detect, interpret and react to evolving threats with new agility and speed.

“Geoff Baird will lead 3i-MIND to a new level of distinction and excellence. His wide ranging experience and talents will be focused on shaping the company’s strategy, refining its products and differentiating its offerings to make 3i-MIND a global market leader,” Kochavi said.

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
