Onity, CANSEC Partner to Create Wireless Locking Solution

Onity and CANSEC, have collaborated on an integrated locking solution for the commercial industry. CANSEC’s Hurricane access control software now integrates with the Onity Wireless Lock (OWL) using its open architecture interface, and is available through the new Onity Partner Enterprise Network (OPEN) program. Onity is part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

“CANSEC is proud to partner with Onity to provide our mutual customers with a cutting-edge, yet easy-to-use, access control solution,” said Fred Dawber, president, CANSEC.  “This new partnership will help to grow future business opportunities for both parties.”

“Integration of our products and technology provides a cost-effective solution for customers who need to secure and control access to additional doors,” said Onity President Laird Hamberlin. “The OWL lock can save customers up to 70 percent of the total installation cost compared to some wired access systems.”

The OWL lock is available in wireless and offline versions, and helps facilitate decision making at the door by using an intelligent on-board database.  Designed to be modular, the OWL can be easily upgraded and installed in the field.  With wireless communication, users have the ability to make updates without physical contact to the lock, as well as receive real-time reports on critical events.

OWL can be easily upgraded to various reader types – HID iClass, MIFARE Classic, 125 KHz Prox and Magstripe -- and from offline to wireless with minimal modification to the lock. Most of the existing hardware is utilized to minimize cost to the customers.  Reader changes can be performed in less than five minutes, while wireless upgrades are as simple as removing the trim panel, mounting the wireless antenna, and pushing a button.
