Major U.S. International Airport Expands Use of Smarter Security Technology

Smarter Security Inc. recently announced that one of the country’s Top 25 largest airports recently expanded its use of the company’s Door Detective CL to better secure employee-only doors and elevators in the airport terminal. Successful deployments of Door Detective at the airport three years ago resulted in additional orders in late 2011 and 2012, with Smarter Security’s anti-tailgating units now protecting more than forty entrances. The airport uses Door Detective to enforce its anti-passback policy and more effectively detect potential intruders entering secure airport operational areas.

“We are honored to be a part of the security efforts that help create more secure airports throughout our nation and enable individuals to experience safer air travel,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Smarter Security. “Door Detective provides a tremendous value for protecting sensitive areas at airports and other locations because it reliably addresses a significant issue -- the open door -- which even the best access control systems fail to protect.”

As with all large, international airports, this particular airport has many doors and elevators in its terminal that lead to restricted areas and are accessible by travelers and other airport visitors. Smarter Security’s Door Detective helps the airport enforce its anti-passback policy by enabling security managers to always know where each issued badge is on the premises and immediately be made aware of any potential security breaches. Door Detective sounds an alarm anytime someone passes in either direction through a restricted doorway at the airport without authorization. To augment alarm response, Door Detective can also trigger other security measures, such as sounding a remote alarm, activating cameras or locking a downstream door. The airport prevents high traffic and baggage from damaging its investment by encasing each unit with Door Detective Vandal Guards.

While typical access-controlled doors provide a level of security, anyone can pass through a door once it’s open, enabling them to have access to non-public, operational areas. Authorized individuals also may occasionally be denied access to areas because they failed to “badge” through a previous access-controlled door. Door Detective resolves these issues because it forces each person to present authorization before proceeding through a restricted entrance. Working in sync with a building’s access control system, Door Detective ensures that workers logically process from zone to zone so their whereabouts are known at all times.
