ESX Announces 2013 Keynote Speaker

ESX Announces 2013 Keynote Speaker

Today, the Electronic Security Expo (ESX) announced its welcome of Roy Spence, co-founder and chairman of GSD&M (an Austin-based marketing and advertising agency) as its 2013 keynote speaker. The keynote luncheon, sponsored by Security America RRG, will take place at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19 at Nashville’s new Music City Center.

Spence, who has been named “Ad Man of the Year” and “Idea Man of the Century,” helped GSD&M grow some of the country’s most successful brands, including Southwest Airlines, Wal-Mart, DreamWorks, the PGA TOUR, BMW, the U.S. Air Force, LL Bean, the Clinton Global Initiative and “Don’t Mess with Texas.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Roy Spence as this year’s featured keynote speaker,” said ESX chair George De Marco. “Inspiring and changing leaders in every sector, Roy gets owners and executives to think differently about leadership, branding and a company’s true purpose. His experience and brilliance in articulating the steps it takes to develop a purpose-driven business helps transform organizations into extraordinary ones. Roy will be a tremendous resource for security professionals attending ESX.”

Spence, who is the co-author of the Wall Street Journal’s bestselling book, “It’s Not What You Sell, It’s What You Stand For: Why Every Extraordinary Business is Driven by Purpose,” currently works with businesses and people to help them discover and live their purpose through his consulting firm, The Purpose Institute.

"Roy and the principles in this book have helped guide our work at the Clinton Global Initiative," said former president, Bill Clinton. "Having a clear and compelling purpose has enabled us to unite leaders and citizens from all over the world, in order to convert pioneering ideas into solutions with tangible results.”

During his career, Spence has been a trusted advisor to leaders such as Sam Walton; Southwest Airlines founder, Herb Kelleher; U.S. presidents and leaders in the State Department and Department of Defense; a member of the board of directors of the Conscious Capitalism Institute, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation and a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Texas.

Spence is also famous for his “Royisms,” including “Ride at Dawn” and “Don’t Do Mild.”

In 2010, Spence launched his own line of hot sauce, Royito’s Hot Sauce, which features one of his mottos — “Don’t Do Mild.”

In his keynote, Spence will discuss finding your business’s purpose, the importance of entrepreneurship, and following your dreams and passions.

Registration for ESX (scheduled for June 17-21, 2013) is now open at: www.esxweb.com/register. The popular Deluxe Pass includes access to this Keynote Luncheon, as well as all of the seminar/super session offerings, networking events, food functions, the expo and more.
