MLB Hopes to Hit a Homerun with Security

MLB Hopes to Hit a Homerun with SecurityMajor League Baseball (MLB) season is getting into full swing after about a month and a half of “take-me-out-to-the-ballgame” moments. In an effort to standardize security practices across the league, MLB team, the Cleveland Indians, have added a new security measure at Progressive Field: walk-through metal detectors.

The first installment will be at Gate D, behind home plate, with other metal detectors being added to gates A and C later this summer. The goal is to complete the whole project by opening day of 2015.

According to Jim Folk, Indians vice president of ball park operations, the number one priority at the ball park is fan safety, but convenience is also important.

“We’re making every effort to ensure these important safety measures, as mandated by Major League Baseball, will have a minimal impact on fans’ speedy entry into the ballpark,” assured Folk.

Baseball fans will have the choice to either walk through the metal detectors or participate in the wand screening process.

MLB has been working with the Department of Homeland Security and the individual pro baseball teams on this initiative.
