Symantec Combines Nine Norton Products to Create One Service

Symantec Combines Nine Norton Products to Create One ServiceSymantec has combined nine different Norton products to create one streamlined service that works on desktop computers as well as mobile devices. The product is currently in beta, and is simply called “Norton Security”. It will go on Sale in North America on Sept. 23 at a price point of $79 per year.

“What we realized was we actually ended up confusing a lot of customers,” said Gerry Egan, senior director of product management, in a story. Norton Security will be sold in stores, but Symantec is also making an effort to ensure customers go through its website as a point-of-purchase.

Similar to Netflix and iTunes, Symantec hopes Norton Security will be an easy-to-manage online service thanks to its improved user interface. The product will limit the number of devices the software can run on, similar to Microsoft Word.

Norton Security includes antivirus, antispyware and spam monitoring functions and will also offer a cloud-based backup feature. The price point for this feature has yet to be determined.
