Pennsylvania School Boosts Security after Reported Sighting of Alleged Killer

Pocono Mountain East High School in northeastern Pennsylvania was on heightened security after a woman reportedly saw Eric Frein, the suspect in a deadly police ambush, nearby. The woman was out for a walk when she saw a man whose face was smeared in mud holding a rifle. Authorities believe it is Frein, an expert marksman and survivalist who has been able to avoid capture for five straight weeks. Additional police officers and security officials were on hand to protect students at the school, which remained open throughout the incident. “The individual’s description was consistent with Frein, and he was observed carrying a rifle,” said Lt. Col. George Bivens. “The individual’s face was covered with mud, so a positive identification could not be made. A search of the area is ongoing.” Frein is charged with opening fire on Sept. 12 outside the rural Blooming Grove state police barracks, killing Cpl. Bryon Dickson and seriously injuring Trooper Alex Douglass in an unprovoked attack. Police also found explosives which were allegedly set by Frein.Pocono Mountain East High School in northeastern Pennsylvania was on heightened security after a woman reportedly saw Eric Frein, the suspect in a deadly police ambush, nearby.
