Transit Operators Get Convenient Mobile Asset Tracking

March Networks is pleased to announce another feature available in the latest version of its free GURU Smartphone Application. The new Mobile Asset Tracking utility now available with GURU 1.6 makes it easy for transit agencies to package and track integrated surveillance video and data evidence as it is passed from one person to the next following an incident.

March Networks created GURU to help technicians save time and money in the field. The app, which can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play, automates typically time-consuming tasks such as checking product warranty status and completing online return forms. GURU also provides innovative utilities to help users work more efficiently and troubleshoot issues onsite using their smartphones or tablets. With GURU, technicians no longer have to spend time booting up a laptop and connecting to the Internet or calling for technical support.

GURU’s new Mobile Asset Tracking utility allows transit operators to scan unique QR codes on the front of each March Networks RideSafe GT Series Hybrid Transit NVR and removable hard-drive caddy to instantly capture serial numbers and combine them with the date, time and geo-location of the event. They can also input the vehicle number, assign a case or ticket number, make notes and attach pictures they’ve just taken with their mobile device. GURU packages all the case information in a convenient PDF file that’s easy to share with supervisors or case investigators, who can add further notes and track the information in turn.

“We designed Mobile Asset Tracking specifically for transit agencies, knowing that when an incident occurs on a bus or passenger train, operators need to get the critical details down quickly and accurately,” said Ru Wadasinghe, vice president of professional services, March Networks. “It’s also important that the physical hard-drive storing the video evidence is tracked as it’s shared within the organization. GURU simplifies the entire process by taking advantage of the smart devices most people already have on hand, along with innovative features we’ve added to our mobile recorders and made available through the app.”
