The Nitty Gritty of ISC West 2015

For the past month, my work inbox has been filling up with articles and press releases from various companies that contain the words "ISC West 2015," inviting me to visit a booth or attend an event. Even the typical annual events: the Annual AIREF Golf Classic; the WSC Women of the Year networking reception; the Security 5K for runners and the 2K for walkers, with all proceeds generated being donated to Mission 500; and SIA's Ride for Education, that raises money for law enforcement and firefighters for job-related education and training have been mentioned. Yet hidden are those little tid-bits of tasty morsels about the new…the unique…the earth-shattering. So, I've compiled a list of these "not-to-miss" products/services/events.

Here's the "nitty-gritty" that is coming to Vegas in the form of ISC West 2015 in just two days:

• Avigilon, in Booth 22043, will be highlighting their 6K camera while introducing the security industry to the first-ever 7K camera. Both cameras promise to provide the ultimate experience of clear image detail, effective processing power and efficient bandwidth and storage management when coupled with Avigilon Control Center software.

• With thousands of booths to visit, don't overlook the educational sessions being offered, especially this one for security system integrators: "How to Survive in the Security Industry: The Next 10 Years." This session focuses on what you should be selling in the next 10 years; how people will buy your security solutions; who will control security budgets; who the trusted advisors will be; who the new competitors are likely to be and the role the web will play in your business. This is a MUST for security professionals who want to future-proof their security business.

• Don't forget about industry standards! ONVIF, PSIA and SIA will be available to discuss their Profiles, Protocols and standards.

• Cybersecurity…it's on all of our minds and especially in the security industry. I'm sure the floor will be buzzing with talk of how physical security integrators can integrate effective methods to prevent cyberattacks.

• Be on the lookout for those booths displaying their Security Products 2015 Govies award, as this designation indicates outstanding government security products.

• And, perhaps most important, while in Vegas, tweet using the hashtag #ISCW15 to @SecProds and @GingerHill13 for awesome show dialog and fun!
