Inovonics Launches New Wireless Smoke/Heat Detector for Use in Senior Living Communities

Inovonics announces the release of its new EN1243 smoke/heat detector. The new smoke/heat detector is being added to Inovonics’ Senior Living product portfolio.

Inovonics’ EN1243 wireless smoke and heat alarm detects levels of heat and smoke that could potentially become a danger to residents living in senior living communities. When specific levels of heat or smoke are detected, the EN1243 notifies caregivers through their emergency call (e-call) system. This detection and notification process creates awareness for on-site personnel. For example, the recent addition of heat detection specifically helps customers like Status Solutions, a provider of situational awareness technologies, to gain additional utility from automated alerting systems for their senior living customers.

“We’ve been working with Inovonics for years because their wireless network and detectors give us the optimal combination of range, coverage and reliability our senior living customers require for their Situational Awareness and Response Assistant (SARA) systems,” said Mike MacLeod, founder and president of Status Solutions. “In retrofits and new construction alike, Inovonics remains our first choice when our customers need monitored smoke and heat detection.”

How the EN1243 Works

The EN1243 smoke/heat detector includes two heat detection methods. The first, fixed-heat detection, alarms when the temperature reaches 135 degrees Fahrenheit. The second measures rate of rise (ROR), alarming if the temperature increases at a rate of 15 degrees per minute from a starting temperature of 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Scott Fincher, Sr. product manager, added, “The use of the smoke/heat detectors can expand the utility and applicability of e-call systems.”
