Thailand Beefs Up Security Following Bangkok Bomb Threat

Thailand has increased security at landmarks and airports following an intelligence report that outlines possible plots in the capital and the surrounding areas at the end of the month.

The police report, published Oct. 10, said that a group of unidentified suspects planned to attack airports, tourist attractions, car parks and department stores in and around the capital between Oct. 25 and Oct. 30.

Thai authorities said they searched three locations in Bangkok in connection with the report, but did not uncover evidence linked to a suspected bomb attack.

Bangkok Metropolitan deputy police chief Pol. Gen Srivara Rensibrahmanahul has ordered police to increase screening and searching of suspicious vehicles in the city.

The report comes after a yearlong struggle with a series of attacks in tourist hot spots. In August, multiple coordinated bomb blasts struck several Thai provinces, killing four Thai nations and wounding dozens more.
