In the early hours of Monday, January 16, gunfire erupted into a Mexican nightclub in Playa de Carmen, Mexico, leaving five people dead and more than a dozen more injured, officials said.

Witnesses from the event say the gunfire was steady for roughly 30 seconds as people ducked for cover or attempted to run from the Blue Parrot nightclub.
